Logline

Born from vision disability parents, a photographer created a film that becomes his contemplative reflection in order to strengthen the bond between a son and his parents.

Director's Statement

Until being 30 years old, there are a lot of time which I spent to live in a small town, Temanggung, Central Java, with both of my parents, Deden and Isharyanti. Unlike other children, I have parents with vision disability (blind). But in that impairment, both of my parents have managed to educate and raise their children, even though their children feel that they were born in the normal family or non disability family.

For me, being in this situation is not easy. There are a lot of things which I want to ask my parents, but I do not have enough gut to ask them. Until this film, I try to make a better and deeper connection to both of my parents. With hope, this strong bond can help me out to find the answers easily to the questions which are previously unanswered.

And, as the time goes by, in doing the research of this film, I can understand how my parents see the world and see their children, which is with their heart. Because sometimes I think of being in their position, to understand what my parents do to see, do we see the same thing.

Nata Hati (Set the Heart) is a simple narration of which is meant by, “Menata Hati” (Setting The Heart) from Cindra as a filmmaker. Nata Hati (Set the Heart) is a film which plays a role as a medium to contemplate oneself, acceptance, and being sincere in the condition of parents with vision disability. The word “setting the heart” is expected to be the process of setting the heart in real for Cindra, and also Cindra’s family, to be together again, to make each other happy, between children and parents.

This film will always develop as Cindra’s maturity grows in accepting the situation and condition. This film is considered to be relevant with Indonesian life at the moment and can be accepted by all age categories.
